EICR software for UK electricians
Fill the Electrical Installation Condition Report in on your phone while the meter is still in your hand. Every reading is checked against BS 7671 as you type, the observations are coded and the verdict is computed, and the signed PDF reaches the landlord the moment you sign it.
Most EICR software is a form with a PDF button. SparkCerts is built around what actually goes wrong on an inspection: a Zs that cannot be right for the breaker, an RCD that is over its time, an observation coded C3 that should be C2. It catches those on site, then carries the report into the remedial quote and the invoice so the whole job is one record.
What the EICR software does
- Schedule of test results with live checks. Each circuit's Zs is compared with the Table 41.3 maximum for its protective device and reconciled against Ze plus R1+R2. Insulation resistance below 1 megohm, RCD times over the limit and a Zs lower than Ze are flagged as you type.
- Observations coded C1, C2, C3 and FI, with the overall assessment computed: one C1, C2 or FI makes the report unsatisfactory, and the recommended next inspection date follows the verdict.
- The model form. Supply characteristics, earthing and bonding, distribution boards (as many as the property has), the schedule of inspections, extent and limitations, and the declaration, laid out as BS 7671 Appendix 6.
- Import readings from your tester. Paste the CSV from a Megger, Metrel or Fluke and the schedule fills itself. Or copy your last EICR and change what differs.
- Sign on the phone. A drawn signature, an audit trail, and a QR code on the PDF so a letting agent can verify the report is genuine.
- Works offline. Plant rooms and basements have no signal. The report saves on the device and syncs later.
- Retests, automatically. Every signed EICR with a next-inspection date becomes a reminder five years on, so landlord work comes back to you.
Free EICR software, for real work
Your first three jobs are free with every feature included, and there is no card to enter. Run three real EICRs through it: the full form, the checks, the signed PDF, the customer copy. If it earns its place, it is £12 a month for the whole firm afterwards, however many reports you issue. Every PDF exports whenever you want it, because the reports are yours.
Start your first EICR, freeFrom the report to the money
An unsatisfactory EICR is a list of work. SparkCerts turns the C1, C2 and FI observations into a draft quote in one tap, the customer accepts it by tapping a link, and when the remedials are done the invoice goes out with the certificate attached. That is the difference between EICR software and a certificate app: the inspection, the quote and the payment are one job, not three tools.
What to look for in EICR software
Whatever you choose, check these five things before you pay for a year of it.
- The BS 7671 model form, with both schedules, not a general-purpose form builder. Scheme assessors compare against the model form.
- Readings validated on site, against the protective device, not just a number box. A PDF cannot tell you a Zs is impossible.
- Offline working, because the board is rarely where the signal is.
- PDF export of every report, any time, so you can leave without losing your records.
- Pricing for the firm, not per user. A sole trader should not pay per seat.
The certificate software page covers the EIC, Minor Works, gas CP12, PAT, EV and emergency lighting forms that share the same account, and the EICR template lists everything the report must contain. For the coding itself, see EICR codes explained and the EICR code checker.
Common questions
Is there free EICR software?
SparkCerts is free for your first three jobs with every feature included: the full EICR to the BS 7671 model form, readings checked on site, the signed PDF and the customer copy. No card details to start. After that it is 12 pounds a month for the whole firm.
Does the EICR follow the BS 7671 model form?
Yes. The report carries the schedule of inspections, the schedule of circuit details and test results, observations coded C1, C2, C3 or FI, the overall assessment and the recommended date of the next inspection, laid out as the model form in Appendix 6.
Does it check my test readings?
As you type each circuit's Zs, SparkCerts compares it with the Table 41.3 maximum for the protective device, reconciles it against Ze plus R1+R2, and flags insulation resistance below 1 megohm and RCD times over the limit. A reading that cannot be right is caught on site, not by an assessor.
Can I import readings from my tester?
Yes. Paste the CSV export from a Megger, Metrel or Fluke tester and the circuits, R1+R2, Zs, insulation resistance and RCD times land on the schedule. You can also copy your last EICR as a starting point.
Does the EICR software work offline?
Yes. The report saves on the phone while you are in a basement or plant room with no signal and syncs when you are back in coverage. Photos queue the same way.
What is the best EICR software for a sole trader?
For one electrician or a small firm, the best fit is software priced for the firm rather than per user, that produces the model form, validates readings on site, works offline and lets you export every report as a PDF. SparkCerts does all of that and adds the quote, the remedial quote and the invoice on the same job.
